Basin, uterus, vagina ... throughout the pregnancy, these different organs will prepare for childbirth and make every effort to promote the birth of baby. We take stock!
For the child to be born, it will be necessary for the uterus, which is a muscle, to contract, and for the child to successively cross the cervix, which, in normal times, is a narrower, narrower canal than a soda straw, then the vagina. This path that will follow the baby to be born crosses the basin from side to side, basin formed by naturally rigid bones but also by joints and ligaments that will soften. Throughout pregnancy these different organs will prepare for childbirth.
- The joints that connect the bones between them relax, which widens the pelvis by a few millimeters; it can be painful at the end of pregnancy.
- Its fibers become fifteen to twenty times longer. At the same time, they become wider. These changes will make the uterus more elastic, they will allow it to contract more easily and therefore better play its role of "engine" to open the neck and push the child forward. The blood circulation in the uterus increases considerably. The cervix, which before pregnancy was hard and fibrous, softens and becomes supple. In the end it is said that it is "ripe". It can thus open without difficulties.
- During pregnancy, it is completely transformed; and at the end of the pregnancy, it has nothing to do with a vagina of a woman who is not pregnant. It lengthens, widens, its walls become more and more flexible and extensible, folded like an accordion.
- At the same time, vaginal secretions are significantly increased as well as the acidity of the vagina. Secretions promote the development of fungi responsible for frequent vaginitis in pregnant women, but this hyperacidity represents an excellent barrier against many microbes. The mucous plug which appears at the end of pregnancy at the level of the neck forms a second, and, the membranes of the egg a third.
In late pregnancy, the vagina is ready to let the head of the child, while it would not matter nine months earlier. This is an important point to make to reassure expectant mothers because almost all fear that the head and the body of the child can not pass through the vagina "which is too small".
